Evan & Company Fall Mantle Decor

Hey Y’all! Happy Wednesday. Can you believe it’s starting to actually feel like fall outside. I have to admit, I’m a horrible person when it comes to decorating for the holidays. I guess I’m always busy helping clients I tend to neglect my home and office. So this year, I decided I was going to jazz up our office mantle for the fall. It’s the focal point of our consultation space, so it need to POP.

I used a collection of pumpkins, pinecones, greenery and taper candles. Most of these things I had around the office, minus the pumpkins of course. I’m still trying to figure out what I used the gold candles for.  Maybe it will hit me soon. I know I collected the brass candle holders from different thrift stores around the area.

The pumpkins came home with me from my visit to Niceville, FL. If you’re in the area, stop by– the students at Crosspoint United Methodist host a pumpkin patch as a yearly  fundraiser. Of course if you can’t make it there, you can also check your local farmers market.

It’s a pretty simple set up. I promise anyone can do it.  Since it was going to be a focal point in our office, I wanted to keep with our brand colors; Grey and White. Luckily I had first dibs on those pretty grey pumpkins. They’re PERFECT. I used seeded eucalyptus and Italian Ruscus to soften the harsh lines of the pumpkins. I added some pinecones for texture and contrast. I also found some faux dusty miller laying around the office that I pick up from our local craft store and those it was another great touch of grey.

If you haven’t already pulled your fall decor out of the attic, hop to it. I had a blast being creative for a minutes yesterday morning. I Can’t wait to see what you come up with– If posting on social media use the hashtag #EGCfallmantle, I’d LOVE to see what you create.

DIY Halloween Doughnut Treats

When I was in grade school my Mom was always doing the most when it came to being class Mom. I remember those kindergarten parties like it was yesterday. As class Mom, it’s your responsibility to impress all the other Moms that might show up to the Halloween party. A lot has changed over the last few years and for some odd reason folks are just much busier and busier these days and don’t have time for creating those cute little baked goods for each kid in their son/ daughters class. Moms, Look no further…I have just the perfect, easy, inexpensive and (most importantly) FUN way to do so without breaking the bank (Under $10.00).

It’s simple. We picked up a dozen Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnuts , a set of plastic vampire teeth and a box of eyeballs.

Step 1: Squeeze the plastic teeth shut and insert them into the center of the doughnut.

Step 2: Push candy eyeballs into the doughnuts above plastic teeth.

Super simple, so simple you could event let the kiddos help out. What teacher doesn’t love sticky fingers?! I grabbed a few sprinkle doughnuts and cupcakes for safe keeping.Who knows, there might be so picky kids in your daughter’s class.

If you try this project, we’d love to see the end results. Use the hashtag #EGCcelebrates when posting your photos on Instagram.

Kid Friendly Gingerbread House Tutorial

We’re just 15 days away from Christmas. Who knew? I need time to come to a screeching halt, please. I haven’t even purchased one gift. Who wants to tackle my list? Though we have a few corporate Christmas parities, I’m traveling to NOLA next week and there are a million of things on my to do list, I still made time for one of my FAVORITE holiday activities.

As a child I can remember making and decorating gingerbread cookies and houses with my friends and family. It was always one of the highlights of the holiday season for me. So I thought it would fun to invite some of my friends over to join, pajamas and all.

Meet Gage. Isn’t he adorable? He the funniest, most southern talking 6 year old you’ll ever meet. When I called to chat with him about coming over to shoot a video with me, He was more than excited.  2015-12-11_0004 We had a blast decorating our Gingerbread house. Watch for yourself– His accent gets me every time. ….and the finished product. Please don’t judge. I’m better at other things in life. I don’t proclaim to be a professional gingerbread house designer.  2015-12-11_0003 Of course we had to let the littler brother in on our fun too. I asked their Mommy and Daddy if they could make a baby for me. Aren’t the the most adorable kids ever?  2015-12-11_0002

Happy Decorating and Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving Table scape Decorating Ideas

Thanksgiving is tomorrow– I don’t know if I’m most excited about, my Granny’s dressing or eating Red Velvet cake. I’m counting down the hours until we’re sitting around dinner table laughing, sharing past memories and of course eating until we can’t eat anymore. That’s what Thanksgiving is all about, right?

Last year, I styled a table scape for The Lettered Cottage and it turned out better than I imagined. Fall is most favorite time of the year. Deep shades of reds, oranges and yellow… it’s just beautiful. With Turkey Day being tomorrow.. YES, I know it’s super last minute but I wanted to give you guys a few last minute ideas on how you can spruce up you table for the holiday.

We started by anchoring two pedestals on either side of the center point of the table. I then added some heirloom pumpkins to the top of each pedestal and a few clusters/ groupings on either side of the pedestal. 2015-11-24_0002 Next I added three lanterns. One in the center of the table and two on either ends. I also mixed in a few pint size mason jars (for florals), brass candles sticks and some small, glass votives.

2015-11-24_0003 Up next.. Flowers. That’s my FAVORITE part. It just adds so much color and life. We used an assortment of fall blooms. Ranunculus, Sunflowers, Roses, yarrow and solidago. The blooms were just PERFECTION. 2015-11-24_0010 I even added in some fresh kale from the farmers market. Mixed with all the different elements, it helped soften some of the harsh textures throughout the table.  2015-11-24_0015 Seeing the finished product come to life is always SO FUN. Here’s a few photos of the entire look we created.  2015-11-24_0011 2015-11-24_0007 Remember there’s no Right or Wrong way to creativity. It’s your way. Happy Thanksgiving.
