DIY New Years Eve Party Decor

Strap on your dancing shoes, it’s time to party. Wether you’re staying at home or headed out, NYE is just a few days away and there is still time to plan. Silver and iridescent colors are such trendy colors and what better way to ring in the new year than with a monocratic color palette.

If you run (literally) to Hobby Lobby you can probably snag a few of those leftover disco ball Christmas ornaments for 80% off. I also picked up these 16″ mylar letter balloons from there. They $2.49 ea. The silver foil backdrop is from Party City.

No party is complete without some sweet treats from Ligers bakery and champagne. Oh and we can’t forget the sequin pillows that we picked up from Hobby Lobby too.

When styling your table, make sure to use different heights and levels. It creates visual interest and is appealing to the eye. We used a mixture of silver, black and white display pieces to flow with our theme.

Your table backdrop can also double as a photobooth backdrop too. Make sure to grab some of those fun “2018” glasses from Walmart. They’re on $1.97.

Mini Bottles of champs make a great take home favor for all your guest at the end of the night. Don’t forget the beads and the party blowers. You guest need to be decked from head to toe in New Years swag. Those “Hello 2018” plates are the perfect size for sweet treats.

We hope you incorporate some of these ideas into your party Sunday evening. If posting on social media, use the hashtag #EGCNYE

Happy New Year!

Thanksgiving Table scape Decorating Ideas

Thanksgiving is tomorrow– I don’t know if I’m most excited about, my Granny’s dressing or eating Red Velvet cake. I’m counting down the hours until we’re sitting around dinner table laughing, sharing past memories and of course eating until we can’t eat anymore. That’s what Thanksgiving is all about, right?

Last year, I styled a table scape for The Lettered Cottage and it turned out better than I imagined. Fall is most favorite time of the year. Deep shades of reds, oranges and yellow… it’s just beautiful. With Turkey Day being tomorrow.. YES, I know it’s super last minute but I wanted to give you guys a few last minute ideas on how you can spruce up you table for the holiday.

We started by anchoring two pedestals on either side of the center point of the table. I then added some heirloom pumpkins to the top of each pedestal and a few clusters/ groupings on either side of the pedestal. 2015-11-24_0002 Next I added three lanterns. One in the center of the table and two on either ends. I also mixed in a few pint size mason jars (for florals), brass candles sticks and some small, glass votives.

2015-11-24_0003 Up next.. Flowers. That’s my FAVORITE part. It just adds so much color and life. We used an assortment of fall blooms. Ranunculus, Sunflowers, Roses, yarrow and solidago. The blooms were just PERFECTION. 2015-11-24_0010 I even added in some fresh kale from the farmers market. Mixed with all the different elements, it helped soften some of the harsh textures throughout the table.  2015-11-24_0015 Seeing the finished product come to life is always SO FUN. Here’s a few photos of the entire look we created.  2015-11-24_0011 2015-11-24_0007 Remember there’s no Right or Wrong way to creativity. It’s your way. Happy Thanksgiving.

DIY French Fry Halloween Costume

I’ll always pick French Fries… ask any of my friends, it never fails. No matter where we are! McDonalds or a 5-Star restaurant…I MUST HAVE French Fries. I’ll take a side of ranch too. Thanks! 2015-10-29_0005 When I saw Studio DIY‘s tutorial, I knew that was the costume for me. Although my Mom still thinks I should go as a chicken Fingers. My love for those is pretty much equal. Next Year! #maybe 2015-10-29_0008 My first stop.. Of course, Hobby Lobby. They know me by name. It’s kinda like an Senior Citizen going to McDonald’s every morning for coffee. They greet you with a friendly smile and say “Good Morning Mr. Evan” but instead it’s for craft supplies. I can’t wait to go back in an show Mrs. Debbie pictures. She’s gonna flip. 2015-10-29_0006 Of course I never do anything alone. There’s always a team of people or someone behind me making me look better than I am. I remember calling Kim (The Balloon Lady) and telling her I wanted to be French Fries for halloween and I need a few balloons… She said “okkkkkk…”. I could hear the hesitation in her voice, but as always she went along with my crazy idea. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it turned out! What do you think? 2015-10-29_0007 If you have a few minutes to spare and need a quick costume for tomorrow night I listed everything I used to make my costume below. It’s pretty self explanatory.

Cardboard | Red Duck Tape | Wide Yellow Grosgrain Ribbon (For Straps) |Red Spray Paint  | Box Cutter | Hot Glue Gun |Balloons

STEP 1: Cut four pieces of cardboard to use for the fry box container. I made a front, back and two sides,  Spray paint both side red and allow them to dry according to the directions on the can.

Step 2:  Hot glue one side piece to the back panel of the fry container. Make sure you run line of hot glue down the side of the back pieces and place the side piece of the container on top. Add glue to the inside seam to secure it. I reenforced with duck tape (red duck tape). Repeat on the opposite side.

Step 3: Glue the front piece to the sides. It will certainly help to have an extra set of hands. (Thanks Mom!) You’ll want to make sure you step into the fry container to measure and mark strap placement according.

Step 4: It’s time to add your fries! As you can tell from the photos, we used balloons. 3 different sizes. You can pick them up at your local party supply store or call “The Balloon Lady”.  Make sure you grab a balloon pump too or you’ve pass out. 😉 We used rubber cement glue and duck tape to hold them in place. Add as many balloons as your french fry eating heart desires.

Step 5: Rock your French Fry costume proudly.  2015-10-29_0003

A HUGE THANK YOU to Kim B. from for coming to the studio on her day off to shoot my costume. She’s one of my biggest cheerleaders and I am forever grateful for her and all she does for me. LOVE YOU Kimmy!

#TheGodwinGang

Most of you guys know I used to be a “photographer”. I worked with Kim Box Photography for almost 4 years, traveled to multiple countries shooting documentary photos and shot tons of families so it’s kind of in my blood. It’s honestly been MONTHS since I have picked up my camera. I very rarely shoot, but there’s a few people that can get it out of me and when JW called, I couldn’t say No.

I have NO words to describe how precious this family is.  I met JW and KC several years back. Long story short, we have TONS of mutual friends in common so it was only a matter of time before we actually “met”. After that FB friend request it was Literally a couple of weeks later and we ran into each other at the Home Improvement store.

#Thegodwingang is made up of JW, KC and their 3 beautiful and healthy girls, Olivia Claire, Zoe Grace, and Collins Elizabeth. It is a pure joy to follow their family’s Journey.  You can certainly see the love this family has for each other. When I need a little pick-me-up I head over to Instagram and click #thegodwingang hashtag. It will ALWAYS put a smile on my face. I couldn’t help myself. I pulled a few of my favorites. You guys HAVE TO SEE!

How adorable is that shower cap?!?! One of my ALL TIME Favorites, that nail polish…I laugh EVERY TIME. I could only imagine the reaction they had when they walked into the bathroom. 2013-11-26_0007 Bedtime Stories, Chick Fil A cows, oversized hats and Daddy the hair stylist. It just warms my heart.  2013-11-26_0008

I know, I know I could go on all day with the cuteness, but we’ve gotta get  back to the reason we’re here—Family Pictures.  Like I said above, there are only a few folks that can get me to dust off my camera and I did literally just that when JW called for Christmas Pictures. Below are a few of my favorites from this past weekend.  I can’t wait to get my Christmas Card in the mail. 2013-11-26_0006

I think Daddy is going to have to keep his guard up. This cuteness is going to break a lot of hearts! 2013-11-26_0005

Zoe Grace just brightens up any room she walks into. That smile is infectious.  2013-11-26_0004

Collins Elizabeth is just growing to fast! How adorable are those cheeks?!?! 2013-11-26_0003

If this doesn’t scream Christmas Card, I don’t know what does. It’s PERFECT!  2013-11-26_0002

Thank again Godwin’s for letting me be a part of your Holiday Season. I know that your Christmas Card is going to bring a lot of smiles to a lot of faces. Oh and By The Way, these guys just moved into a sweet new house out in the middle of no where! I am heading over next week to work a little Holiday Mantle Action. Stay tuned for a post coming very soon! It’s gonna be RAD. Can’t wait to share with everyone.
